Abstract

Corticotomy-assisted orthodontics (CAOT) can shorten orthodontic treatment time by increasing regional acceleratory phenomenon. The periodontal wound healing caused by corticotomy are similar to the periodontal tissue reaction induced by orthodontic force; if the two phenomena could be accumulated and both enhancing bone remodeling, orthodontic tooth movement should be accelerated theoretically. There are many different kinds of procedures and strategies in the clinical application of corticotomy-assisted orthodontics, but when the cost and benefit ratio for the patients are thoroughly considered, using minimal invasive corticotomy to assist orthodontic treatment may be more practical. As for the clinical efficacy of minimal invasive corticotomy, more well-controlled clinical studies should be doneto gain higher level of evidence.
