Abstract
To accelerate the orthodontic treatment time, more self ligating brackets were applied clinically. This case reported on by applying self ligating bracket on patient who needed orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. This is a class III skeletal malocclusion with mandible prognathic profile. The patient is asking for reducing mandible prognathism. After orthodontic examination, the treatment plan was designed as orthodontic treatment first then orthognathic surgery later. The orthodontic phase was by applying self ligating bracket (Carriere) to decompensate mandible lower incisors and align the teeth. The next step was surgery phase which was performed the orthognathic surgery on mandible by applying bilateral vertical ramus osteotomy. After 11 months treatment, orthognathic surgery was done by oral surgeon. Three months after surgery, the braces were de-bonded with patient’s satisfy profile. In this case, it is found that alignment speed were no difference on presurgery preparation of patient by applying self ligating bracket.
