Abstract
Shorting of tooth or external root resorption that happen during or after completion of orthodontic treatment are troublesome. The root resorption could affect treatment outcome, unstable orthodontic tooth movement and even cause medical dispute. The etiologies of external root resorption could be systemic problems or local factors. The mechanism of external root resorption is still unclear and under investigation. This article reviewed the factors and possible causes on the orthodontic root resorption and discussed the possible role of light emitted diode (LED) biophotostimualtion effects to inhibit the root resorption. The information was provided for orthodontists in daily practice.
